FASHION: Why Scotland Should Be On Your Fashion Radar
Earlier this year the vote for Scottish independence got the nation talking about Scotland and it's unique culture. Whether it's giving rise to hot celebrities like Ewan McGregor, providing tourists with amazing Highland scenery or wowing the arts world with the Edinburgh fringe festival, Scotland is one destination that is high on every traveller's must-do list. What you may not know about about the Scots is that they also streets ahead in the style stakes too. Here are some of the reasons that Scotland should be on every fashionista's radar for the coming year.
Scotland's chic knitwear
If you're familiar with high fashion, you will have heard of a designer label called Pringle, also known as Pringle of Scotland. Yup, that's right - the well-knownclothing line is actually Scottish, and has been around since 1815. Pringle actually coined the term "knitwear" in its early days, and invented the world famous argyle pattern that you see on some of the catwalk's coolest jumpers and sweaters. Fashion icons Brigitte Bardot and Grace Kelly were fans of the designer back in their day.
The England team is not the only team in the British Isles to have a super trendy sports kit! With more and more sportswear appearing on the catwalks, Adidas are bringing out some really great designs lately. The brand is also responsible for the Scottish football team's stylish kit which can be bought in sports shops throughout Scotland. Scottishfootball betting is growing in popularity too - in fact, a Chinese TV channel recently snapped up the rights to show live Scottish football matches on TV, mobile and online. Go Scotland!

Scottish fashion awards
Every year Scotland hosts it's own awards ceremony to celebrate all things style related. The Scottish Fashion Awards have become a well-respected event in the fashion world and show yet again that the country is at the forefront of the style stakes. This year the event will be held in London on the 3rd September and will be presented by MTV star Laura Whitmore. Judges include the British Fashion Council's Caroline Rush as well as editors from major magazines such as Grazia and Vogue Italia.
Stylish Scottish celebrities
Scotland has given birth to some of the quirkiest and coolest celebrities out there, many of whom are fashion icons in their own right. One of these is Tilda Swinton, who regularly appears on the pages of fashion glossies due to her amazing sense of style. The Hollywood actress has even appeared in a Chanel ad campaign where she modelled a range of Scotland-inspired pieces for Karl Lagerfeld. Equally edgy in the fashion stakes are singer Shirley Manson from the band Garbage, DJ Calvin Harris and the gorgeously quiffed Emeli Sandé.
Those are just a few reasons why Scotland is a great destination for fashion fans. So, what are your favourite things about Scotland?
