LIFESTYLE: #MomentsThatMatter

Tuesday, 2 September 2014

August was a big month for me, even more so this year, so when Sure got in touch about their Moments That Matter campaign, it was the perfect timing!

I was challenged to capture all the big #MomentsThatMatter to me and share them here with you! To help me along my way, they send me a package of very helpful goodies which definitely came in useful!

Starting a new job!
Finally! After being unemployed for so long I've finally found myself a little part time job at Boost! My deodorant obviously came in handy for keeping me fresh all day whilst I was running around plus my yummy bounce ball gave me the extra energy I needed during my lunch break!

My 21st!
So this is part 1 which my parents made perfect for me! After a morning of opening cards and presents we got all dressed up and drove into town for Afternoon tea at The Ritz! The hotel itself and the food were both amazing and it was such an experience as it was something that I have wanted to do for a while. There was endless food and I even got a surprise birthday cake at the end!

I definitely had alot of use for a couple of the things in my inspiration box that day, firstly the deodorant which I now use every day and secondly the rollasole shoes were a great help when my dad parked a 10 minute walk down the road! I just slipped them on and then changed into my heels as we got a little bit closer haha. I wore my amaaazing Vesper Two piece (and my trusty ASDA heels) which was so super comfortable, I didnt think it was even possible for something so tight to feel so great on, all my Vesper dresses are the same plus the amazing placement of the peplum meant I could wear a crop top and still hide my afternoon tea bloating (Which is one of the worst kinds hah)!
I had an amazing day and to top it all off, when we got home Andrew came over straight from work with lots of amazing presents and a giant cookie! mmm

My 21st Part 2

Since Andrew was working on my actual birthday, he planned the most amazing weekend for us a few days after. Whisked off to the Sanderson Hotel for two relaxing nights in this crazy hotel, we went to my favourite places for dinner, had breakfasts in the hotel, went out and got drunk in soho followed by a champagne and strawberry fuelled trip to the spa the next morning! We had the best weekend ever!

LIFESTYLE: Thai Cooking - Mango And Sticky Rice

Monday, 18 August 2014

When I was invited to take part in a cooking challenge I was super excited as it finally gave me the push I needed to get around to posting something I had been wanting to do since I got back from Thailand!

A new survey carried by International Currency Exchange (ICE) found that majority of people choose their holiday purely based on the food available at the destination. So my challenge was to create my favourite meal that I'd eaten while on holiday.

If you followed my trip to Thailand you will know that I was totally obsessed with a dish they eat out there for breakfast or dessert - hao Niaow Ma Muang - AKA Mango and Sticky Rice. It was totally unlike anything I've ever had before, the whole concept of sugary sweet rice freaked me out and I didn't try it until a few days before the end of the trip after which I became obsessed with it and ate it at every opportunity, I even bought some at the airport on the way home haha. plus to mangos in Thailand are so much sweeter and juicier than the English ones and are sold in bags on the street for like 70p.

So I found a simple recipe, popped down to Tesco's and got started!
  1. Soak 1 cup of rice in 1 cup water for 20-30 minutes, OR up to 4 hours.
  2. Do not drain the rice. Add 1/2 cup more water, plus 1/2 can coconut milk, 1/4 tsp. salt, and 1 Tbsp. brown sugar. Stir well.
  3. Bring to a gentle boil, then partially cover with a lid (or bring to a big boil and have it all spill out of the pan and all over the oven, Like I did). Reduce heat to medium-low.
  4. Simmer for 20 minutes, or until coconut-water has been absorbed by the rice. Turn off heat, leave the pot on the burner with the lid on tight. Allow to sit for 5-10 minutes.
  5. To make the sauce, warm (do not boil) the rest of the can of coconut milk over medium-low heat (5 minutes). Add 3 Tbsp. sugar, stirring to dissolve (I'd use white sugar next time as the brown turned it a nasty colour).
  6. Taste-test sauce for sweetness, adding more sugar if desired.
  7. When ready to serve, prepare the mango by slicing it open and using a melon ball scoop to create mango spheres (I made a right mess of this part haha). Pick up the warm rice in your hands and shape into rectangular or triangular shapes (used a spoon) and add the mango balls (mushy mess) on top.  Drizzle lots of the sweet coconut sauce over.
 Ta-dahhh
It was super hard to find the right ingredients, mangoes were easy but just not as nice, but I had loads of trouble finding the right rice and decided sushi rice would have to do the job, luckily, it did haha!! I was actually really pleased with how it turned out and how similar it actually tasted! I made far too much for myself but my dad came along and finished the rest so it can't have been that bad!

FASHION: Matalan Style Project

Wednesday, 23 April 2014

This week, I was finally asked to take part in one of Matalan's style challenges, I've always wanted to have been asked since seeing them on lots of my favourite blogs!

Basically, Matalan pick four bloggers, give them £50 and a theme to style and outfit around. This time it was ART POP

I picked this pretty little cami top - I love the print. I wear cami's all the time now but this is my first printed one, I like that its bold and easy to see, I'm not a big fan of tiny little ditsy prints.

I also got a chance to push myself to try a trend that I would never normally go for - boyfriend jeans. I don't think I have worn any style other than skinny for five or six years now so I was a bit apprehensive but paired with heels they just fine, it just gives them a feminine touch.

LIFESTYLE: Mothers Day With H Samuel

Wednesday, 12 March 2014

With Mothers day coming up,  H.Samuel challenged me to make a crafty little gift for my Mum, they sent me some paint and some glitter and some other bits and pieces for me to make her something a little more sentimental. It was such a cute idea and a great chance to get messy and creative - something that I don't do enough and although it was like kids play, I really got into it and had a lot of fun, and I ended up with something super cute!
They have also offered me a £50 gift card to give away to my readers so if your stuck for gift ideas (or money) Why not enter and you could treat your mum to something on them!

LIFESTYLE: #AplroAM Part 2

Saturday, 8 March 2014

Time to show you guys my last few smoothies! I had to skip say five since I was having my teeth pulled out and I spent that day in hospital - fun fun - so here are days six and day seven. Smoothies have been great for my mouth in the mean time, I've enjoyed drinking them with my sore gums!

They were a little bit simpler since I'm a little fragile and lazy at the moment haha day 6 was two squeezed oranges and their pulp mixed with a glass of  unsweetened almond milk, which was nicer that I expected! This milk is alot less sickly, could you imagine mixing orange juicy and pulp with normal milk?.. yeah haha this was quite nice though
and day 7 was apple and strawberry - this was yummy. I'm loving the flavour combinations in this one and it's a pretty colour too!

So, that's the end of my #AplroAM challenge and I really enjoyed working on it. Almond milk is definitely going to make an appearance in my fridge from now on, it's great to drink something like milk that doesn't make me feel horrible and sluggish, I felt much healthier and would totally recommend it to anyone with any kind of slight lactose problem!

LIFESTYLE: #AlproAM Part 1

Wednesday, 5 March 2014

At the moment, my mornings consist of getting up, playing with Molly for 15 minutes until she gets bored and then going to the kitchen for a smoothie, out of a carton. I've been drinking pre-made smoothies for breakfast for the past few months now so when I was contacted by Alpro and asked if I wanted to take part in their #AplroAM (Alpro Almond Mornings) challenge, I thought it might be a nice way to kick-start my transition from premade smoothies into healthy fresh ones!

The campaign is all about getting people interested in starting their day healthily. This 7 day challenge involves my making a quick and easy smoothie each morning for breakfast using their unsweetened almond milk. I normally try to avoid smoothies with milk in them as  I am actually a tiny bit lactose intolerant and feel like death after every one, If you been following me recently you will know I'm on a bit of a milkshake hype at the moment and suffer after everytime, (I just cant help it, they taste so good but make me feel so bad) So this was a very welcome challenge.

Here's my first smoothie. Luckily I was at Andrews so we scouted out his super old smoothie make which his mum agreed to let be borrow for a week! After getting it set up and in place in my kitchen we tried out our first smoothie. I thought I better go for something easy and a flavour that I know I like so we started with strawberry and banana. Two humongous strawberries, half a banana and enough almond to fill the glass and we were good to go.

I was scared to use the blender so Andrew actually made the first one but that soon changed, its so much fun!
Next up, I wanted to try somthing a little bit more to my tastes, basically somthing with more chocolate haha. When I was on holiday last year there was this amazing "Mocktail" which was basically a chocolate and banana smoothie. I was obcessed, drinking 2 or 3 a day haha I decided to try to recreate that - And this one I did all by my self! These things are so easy to make, you just throw all the ingredients that you fancy in and whizz it all up.
After discovering just how easy it was I decided I wanted to try a 'thorw anything together' smoothie. I had a look in the fridge and all that was left were grapes and a bag of orange so hey presto, we have an orange and grapes smoothie. It actually ended up being everyones favourite including mine, it was very refeshing and tasty!
Day four, I was a little bit cheeky. I've now run out of fruit and it was cold so I decided to try a hot chocolate, since I have banised them from my normal everyday routine due to the lascoste issue. It was so nice to have one again, it tasted quite creamy and was just as nice and I didnt feel ill for the rest of the day, result!!
I need to go shopping for some more fruit so I'm going to end the post here and get back to you with the rest of my creations next week, hopefully! I'm getting four wisdom teeth taken out tomorrow which I'm reaaally not looking forward too!
