LIFESTYLE: World Meat Free Day With Quorn

Monday, 15 June 2015

Today is Meat Free Day and it's all about seeing the benefits of eating less meat by going totally meat free for just the day! It can help towards a healthier, balanced diet that’s better for our planet and fairer to our food systems too - with the population set to rise by over 30% by 2050, the demand for meat simply cannot be met.

Myself, Andrew and my family are huge meat eaters but Quorn have shown me that you can still enjoy the tastes and the textures without the meat!

They invited me along to another of their cooking classes were we got to make and try BBQ pulled chicken, without the chicken. This one I was a little bit skeptical about, how on earth were they going to get the texture but it really was delicious although I wouldn't call is pulled chicken, rather, shredded but delicious all the same. We had Thai green curry for mains and there is no way you would know it wasn't meat - Quorn is know for its amazing ability to soak up flavours so its perfect for dishes like this. We finished with the most delicious, flour free chocolate tart for dessert.

Will You Be Going Meat Free Today?

LIFESTYLE: #QuornBBQ

Monday, 1 September 2014

Having lots of BBQs in the garden with family and friends is one of my favourite things to do in the summer but sadly, for some reason, this year, we really haven't had anywhere near as many as usual so when I got an invite to a blogger BBQ I was super excited since it was probably going to be my last one for this year now that they weather is going all strange!

This BBQ was a little different - instead of the usual burgers and sausages, we had Quorn ones! As always with Quorn, I wasn't too sure to begin with, I've now tried it cooked a few times and its certainly not bad but with the BBQ I thought it was just crumble through the grill - but it didn't! The chefs also marinated the food before they cooked it so both the burgers and the sausages had an extra yummy flavour on top!

I was also very impressed with cocktail sausages - which they have absolutely perfected - and the scotch eggs although I'd never had a real one before to compare it too haha but they tasted good! As well as the Quorn they laid on free drinks from the bar, crisps and nibbles with lots of dips, all the buns, cheese and sauces we needed and for dessert, cheesecake and trifle!

Anyway, we grabbed our food, got a drink (my new favourite thing is a Passion fruit Rekorderlig - soo yummy) and sat around eating and chatting all night!!

Such a lovely way to spend the evening! Big thanks for Quorn for having me!

LIFESTYLE: The Underground Cookery School With Quorn

Friday, 8 August 2014

Soo you may remember I went to The Underground Cookery School recently and had a blast, so of course when I was invited back to another event there I jumper at the chance!

This time it was with Quorn! I popped along super early as usual and was greeted with a glass of bubbly and some snacks. I was a bit suspicion of the sausage rolls - I thought this was meant to be a vegetarian thing but they looked and tasted exactly like sausage rolls! Apparently there were actually Quorn - you got me guys, I was shocked and impressed at the same time!

When the rest of the girls arrived we had a little presentation - apparently there are already 118 products out with pork pies being their newest release! They are now looking to get meat eaters involved as well as the veggies because as well as being vegetarian friendly Quorn actually has a lot of health benefits like being high in fibre and low in salt and sugar!

We then got to the cooking. We didn't get to cook the Quorn ourselves which was probably for the best as I would have had no idea what to do with it but we did do alot of other fun stuff like making our pasta which was great - I've never done that before! plus we made the same dessert again which was my favourite part of both meals mmmm!

It's very odd, I've enjoyed the events at the underground cookery school so much that I've actually wanted to start cooking real food at home haha. Probably going to start with cakes and desserty stuff because I love the decorating part at the end but after that I am going to try to move on to bigger and better things! I definitely want to try making my own pasta again!

Thanks Quorn for another super evening!

LIFESTYLE: Quorn

Tuesday, 18 February 2014

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Quorn and asked if I would like to try out some of their products. I said I'd love to and a few days later a big box of products arrived. I'm going to be honest here, I, myself only got to try one of the products. That must say something for them, my brothers ate everything else so they must have enjoyed them! I was a little worried when I agreed to this that my family would reject it, we are big meat eaters so I wasn't sure if they were just going to shun them but I was surprised. I left them in the fridge to see if there were any takers and they started eating them - by choice! I think one of the reasons apart from the taste (which they would have had to like if they were going to carry on eating, they are really reaalllly picky) was how easy they were to prepare, they all came with easy cooking instructions and were near enough exactly the same as cooking regular meat.

As for the product that I got the taste, lucky me, they left me one! It was lovely and I'd happily eat it again. It was a pesto, mozzarella and fake chicken escalope. I seriously would not have noticed that it wasn't real chicken, the texture was the same. One thing I would say was the pesto in the escalope was very overpowering so I didn't get a great chance to have a real taste of the fake chicken. oh and I know the place looks empty haha that how I eat nowadays, I get my meat, or my not meat, in this case and I eat it with a can of sweet corn. The quorn website has some high protein recipe ideas so I should have really had a look at those first!

So to end this post I'm going to say, I'm shocked but Quorn at my house was a success!
