Bottomless Brunch at Bondi Green, Paddington

Thursday, 20 May 2021

As someone who is in the habit of waking everyone up early on the weekend and making them come for breakfast with me, I was hiding a big secret. Until recently, I had never been to a bottomless brunch. Gasp.

I don't know, I mean, I know it was becoming a thing a few years back but I was backpacking, and then I was a bit all over the place when I got home, and then COVID, so I didn't really have a whole lot of opportunity; but I didn't wait too long once I did!

Not being allowed to do anything made me realise that if there's something I want to do, I should make it a priority and just do it.

Bottomless Brunch at Bondi Green

I discovered the Daisy green collective last summer when someone posted a video of a watermelon keg on the side of their table in Mayfair. Less than a week later, I was drinking fruity margaritas out of my own watermelon keg on a sunny Saturday afternoon. This is when I discovered their awesome brunch menu.

The Heddon street one (Ziggy Green) is really well placed, and the two others (Scarlett and Darcy & May Green) that I visited over the past year were both lovely but their new Paddington venue (Bondi Green) topped them all. Just a few steps away from Darcy & May, Bondi Green is a trendy little suntrap, by the side of the canal rather that on it.

Paddington as a whole was a totally underrated area for me, I guess I was a little late on that since upon leaving the station until I spotted what looked like a pilgrimage. Away from the main road, across the bridge and down the steps; everyone was quite obviously doing what I was doing - heading to the canal for brunch, it was 11.30am on a Saturday morning and scorching hot after all.

I think the reason I was wary of bottomless brunch was because I kept hearing the same thing. It seems that food takes a backseat a lot of the time and whilst unlimited alcohol is great, good food is my main objective. But having frequented the chain for plain old normal brunch over the past year or so, I was confident that wasn't going to be the case here and I was right. Prosecco is prosecco but the food was the star.

Included in the price were two courses which meant that rather than being sensible, we were able to get both a sweet and savoury course along with the two bottles that we got through during our 90 minute slot (and the third one we managed to get after it finished.)

I started with their sweetcorn fritters which is probably my favourite brunch dish ever. It combines all the brunchy things I love (the avo, the poached eggs, the aesthetic lol) but replaces the bread with delicious sweetcorn fritters. Lots of excitement for one plate of food

After that, I went for the granola which seemed like a better idea that cake in the almost tropical heat that day - you can see my sun burn developing through out the day if you look at the photos carefully. Regardless of that, it was also very good and made me feel like I was eating breakfast on a balcony somewhere in Greece.

Every table was full and the atmosphere was perfect. Being outside was great, there was a DJ playing music, people walking by along the canal and big groups of friends sailing past us down the river which was really fun to watch.

Somehow, the whole day flew by and it was almost 7pm by the time we left. The weather was ridiculous and they didn't push us to leave so we stayed and drank cocktails in the sun all afternoon.

Highly recommend and very much looking forward to going back!

The best brunch in Birmingham

Thursday, 1 December 2016

After booking up a hotel for our recent trip to Birmingham, we decided to leave London at 8am so that we would arrive in time for brunch! It's my favourite meal of the week so wherever I go, I am always on the lookout for somewhere nice and after a little research and came across Yorks Bakery.
Location: York’s is on the corner of Stephenson Street, Birmingham which is a great location just outside of New Street station. It was a ten minute walk from our Holiday Inn and is located at the end of a tram line so it’s very easy to get to from wherever you start. Beware of Google Maps - it took us to their old address so make sure you just search for Stephenson Street rather than Yorks.

Venue: The building is pretty cool; on the corner of the street and has quite a rustic feel with exposed brickwork and lots of wood. Although there is also a downstairs, this place quite small and when we arrived, I didn’t think we were going to get a table, especially for five of us, but within a few minutes, we had a choice of three different tables so don’t be discouraged. It’s full of people and very busy but I loved the laid back, casual atmosphere. Whilst the staff are helpful, remember, you have to order at the bar!

Menu: I was very impressed with Yorks brunch menu, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a varied one! As well as all your brunch favourites, it was nice to see some something a little bit different from the norm with dishes I’d never heard of before like Arabian Buttered Eggs or Greek Eggs. I also loved that rather than just avotoast, there were four different dishes that used my favourite ingredient! The big thing for me though was the Australia eggs benedict – it’s my favourite brunch dish but I struggle to find it anywhere so I was very excited when my dad pointed it out – he ordered it too!
Price: Brunch always costs us quite a bit because we look at it as going out for a meal and end up ordering four drinks each and a dessert afterwards. My eggs Australia cost £8.50 and which is pretty average for London prices, although I can imagine that’s quite expensive for Birmingham. Andrews full English costs £12 though which I thought was expensive, even for London.

Food: My parents have never been out for brunch with me and Andrew so I was hoping the food was going to be good since we always talk about how much we love it! Luckily, it was and everyone was very impressed with the food, myself included. All 8 of our eggs had perfectly runny yolks and my avocado was just ripe - the muffins it was served on were delicious too. The hollandaise was just a little runny for my liking but nothing too much of an issue. The boys were both very impressed with their full English although Andrew wasn’t fan of their homemade baked beans.

Next time I want to try the truffled mushrooms because another lady who was sitting by the entrance had ordered them and the smell alone was incredible. Until then,

Would I recommend Yorks? Definitely!

LIFESTYLE: Brunch at Foxcroft & Ginger

Monday, 16 February 2015

Before instagramming your weekend brunch became a thing, I really wasn't interested in breakfast. I guess I just thought it was either cereal, toast and neither of those things are really very enticing. Nowadays I wake up at Andrews every weekend and get super jealous when I scroll through instagram and see everyone's amazing looking breakfasts, poached eggs with avocados and smoked salmon, orange juice, croissants. It's become just as much of a thing to go out for breakfast as it is for dinner.

I was invited to come and have brunch at Foxcroct & Ginger in Soho which I definitely couldn't turn down. Since everyone I know works, I picked a day that I was in town for press days and went along on my own to fuel up for running around London all day.
The little cafe has a very chilled vibe. Lots of students and people working on laptops and others sitting alone with a hot drink, getting lost in a book. Luckily for me, it was somewhere that was very comfortable to be sitting and eating breakfast on my own.

I started off with a drink, there was a big selection of teas so I went for something unusual, a strawberry and hibiscus tea although it wasn't to my taste, it was a bit bitter for me so next time I'll be sticking with mint.
As I said, I have only recently discovered the joys of poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. I have seen the normal smoked salmon or spinach options so when I spotted with a few different ones on this menu I was pretty excited. They had a choice of either mushrooms or pulled pork. It was just after 11 I went for the mushrooms for a more breakfasty feel. I must also have a new thing for mushrooms too because I spotted a mushroom, egg and truffle oil pizza which also got my mouth watering.

When breakfast arrived, the eggs were cooked perfectly, it was a very generous portion and the mushrooms were delicious! The bread was just a bit too crunchy for me but I guess that's what you get when you order a dish with sourdough toast.
Along with my main dish I couldn't resist a side of avomash. It was a little pricey at £2.50 for a tiny plate but it was definitely enough to accompany my breakfast and it was so good.

I enjoyed my breakfast and would happily go back if I was in the area!

Bottomless Brunch at Hemingways, Wimbledon

Monday, 9 August 2021

This weekend I put my raincoat on and went out in the pouring rain. I had a booking for bottomless brunch at Heminway's in Wimbledon and I wasn't going to let a little torrential rain stop me.

I'm still pretty new to SW London and Wimbledon is always a joy, although this was my first visit to the village and that was even more special. Very cute.

I arrived early and ordered a peppermint tea to dry off and warm up as I waited for Juanita to join me - the inviting velvet booths helped with that too.

Once she arrived we had so much to catch up on that the waiter ended up coming back three times to ask if we were ready to order yet.

When we finally did have a chance to look at the menu, it was a hard decision - it was small but mighty. There were alot of things we wanted to try so we ended up ordering three between us - the bloody Mary shakshuka, the spicy chorizo hash and an extra plate of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs - Juanita's favourite. She used to order it every single time we went out whilst we were working together.

The shakshuka came out on top for me - not least because it was delicious but it came with so much bread, which was much appreciated with the drinks coming in thick and fast.

One of the awesome things about Hemingways bottomless brunch is, that because they are a cocktail bar first and foremost, they have the option of mix and match cocktails to go with their food.

So of course I had a glass of prosecco..

But we also managed to get through a range of cocktails as well. The pornstars were the perfect level of sweet, the rum punch was super fruity and the frosé.. well, it was frozen and that's good enough for me, I'm a sucker for a frozen cocktail.

They're running at 50% off during August so I'd head down there sooner rather than later to take advantage of £20 for as many drinks as you want.

Five Places For Breakfast In London

Sunday, 18 September 2016

If you guys have followed me for a while, particularly on Instagram, you will know that I am a little bit partial to a nice brunch at the weekends! Breakfast during the week is such a boring experience for me, I've been making my way through a box of weetabix this week so that's why I like to indulge a little at the weekend.

If you asked me what my perfect 24 hours in London would be, it would definitely start with brunch! Usually it's all about the avocado but since I had five different sitting to attend to this week, I mixed up my choices a little! My birthday plans were left completely up Andrew this year and luckily for me, my boyfriend knows me well.

Duck & Waffle at The Heron Tower
This was on the morning of my actual birthday and I was so excited because I have wanted to visit duck and waffle for such a long time now. We got in the lift up to the 40th floor and sat at a window seat looking out over London. Compared to the sky garden and even the shard, it seemed so much higher and whilst it was pretty scary, it was also pretty amazing.

I popped to the toilet and when I came back, Andrew had ordered two belinis! Champagne for breakfast it was then! I kinda wanted to order the duck and waffle, because, well you know; but the duck egg en cocotte sounded too good to pass up. So whilst Andrew got stuck into his full English, I had a pan of melted gruyere cheese, wild mushrooms and truffle with a fried duck egg in the middle and a basket of toasted bread soldiers. It was delicious and a bit over indulgent for breakfast but it was my birthday after all!

As we finished our drinks, the manager brought over a cute little cake with a candle in it which was a nice touch and just the sweet bite I needed needed to finish off.

Hubbard & Bell at The Hoxton Hotel
We've been here a few of time now because its one of our favorite places for breakfast! The eggs are always poached to perfection plus I love that the avotoast comes with pistachios for a little extra crunch.

After feeling ill every single time I eat bread, this time, I though you know what!? Why do I keep doing this to myself and decided to order gluten free to see what happened. I was a bit scared to eat it at first because even though it was gluten free, it was still a slice of bread and I was convinced that it was going to make me feel ill plus I wasn't even sure that I was going to like it. I needn't have worried though, because the thick slice of seeded bread that arrived with my breakfast was delicious and I actually really enjoyed it's crumbly texture. Afterwards, low and behold no stomach ache, no acid reflux and no falling asleep. Problem solved!

The Holborn Dining Room At The Rosewood
Andrew had booked a super weekend for us and the first night involved a stay at The Rosewood Hotel. For breakfast in the morning, we had three options; room service, the mirror room or the holborn dining room. I wanted to see as much of the hotel as I could so that put a cross over room service. We first popped to the mirror room but it was a bit too loungey for us as so we moved on to The Holborn Dining room in the courtyard of the hotel, which was much more of a proper restaurant. We both loved the style and don't ask me how but strangely, it reminded us both of main street Disney, it just had that vibe.

Anyway I thought I'd try something different this morning and went for scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, I also ordered an exotic fruit salad, tea and juice and some more gluten free bread! It was quite expensive but luckily it was all included in the price of our room.

Room Service At The South Place Hotel
The next evening, we stayed at another amazing hotel and decided to spend our last morning together in bed. Whilst they have the rooms and design down to a T, we weren't so impressed with the breakfast. It was a little bit cold when it arrived and they forgot a smoothie, which was quickly brought up afterward, although it was tasteless. This definitely won't stop us from going back though as I would count it as my new favourite hotel, we just won't be booking breakfast next time!

NAC Mayfair
This one was a few days later but I took it as a chance to celebrate my first full week of being 23! I popped down to Mayfair for breakfast with Farfetch. As I like to describe them, its like ASOS but for designer brands - they have a selection of over 400 boutiques and some incredible stock.

It was a great opportunity to hear about blogging from some different points of view, especially as some of them were fashion magazines as well as blogs and of course catch up with the Laurren who arranged it all!

Of course I went to the avotoast yet again and a glass of fresh orange juice. I loved that they spread the toast with avocado before they piled it on top as well. There were chilli seeds on it which I was not expecting but those were easily scraped off!

London On The Weekend In My Favourite Dress

Thursday, 28 July 2016

I've been a huge fan of Motel Rocks since I first spotted them as a Topshop concession in 2009. Back then (lol) it was all about the bodycon and I bought up four versions of the same dress in different colours and wore them whenever I got the chance! I loved those dresses.

I rarely wear anything too tight any more but I am still totally obsessed with the brand and my collection of Motel dresses have been a godsend these past few weeks. I am currently loving the more floaty shapes and for last weeks heat, this Tiara dress in Elephant Parade was perfect! In true Georgina style, I also have it in two other prints but my parents bought my this bright orange one for christmas and its my favourite of the three.

The Tiara shape is a smock dress with just a little more shape than most of the others, it also has a pretty lace up detail at the back and I just love the Indian (I think?) elephant print on this one. It's actually what inspired my whole blog redesign a few months ago.
I wore it last Saturday for brunch with Andrew. It'd been a few months since our last brunch date so I was very excited to have won a tab at Christophers which I booked up for my first weekend back in the UK. Andrew and I were the first ones in, eager as usual and ordered as much as we could manage. He had an omelette with truffle fries, tea, coffee and juice whilst I also had an orange juice with my lobster benedict and a side of avocado. Obviously. And after that, I had dessert. Go hard or go home right?! We had a lovely couple of hours stuffing our faces with delicious food.
Since it was such a warm day, we decided to walk it off and spent the afternoon walking through London. Andrew took charge and was my tour guide taking us through a part of town that I dont really know that well. We saw the Tate Modern, Shakespeare's' Globe and The Golden Hinde, I never did any of the tourist stuff when I was younger so this was all totally new. We managed 18,000+ steps before getting on the Central line at Liverpool street to go one stop before it broke down again and we had to get an Uber home. I had a great time and I think the fact that I dont even have any photos from the walk says something, right? It was nice to just enjoy being with Andrew.

Five Amazing Places To Eat In Seminyak, Bali

Thursday, 6 October 2016

Food is a big thing for me, like a real big thing. Trying out new restaurants can become the highlight of my week so obviously it is always a huge part of my travel experience as well. Whenever I visit anywhere, I always do my food research before and continue it whilst I am there. Google is all well and good for full on reviews but Instagram is my number one this sort of thing. I love that you can see exactly what food looks like and what people think of it. I also like to see what photos people post of the actual place, who they are there with and what the vibe is and I get that best through instagram.

We were in Seminyak for five days and of course we ate out a lot. There were so many unique places out there, and as well as some amazing food we had, there were also some pretty incredible locations. Here are a few that stood out for me.

Cafe Organic
I had been following Cafe Organic on instagram for months and fell in love with their colourful and carefree feed. They opened last year and are all about the super foods but whilst what they serve is healthy, it also looks amazing. Five minutes after leaving our resort in a cab, we arrived in instagram heaven. Before we even saw any food; with white wall and a glass store front, inside was full of bright, natural light. The specials were written in coloured chalk on chalk boards, the table tops were white marble and there were cactus scattered around everywhere.

Andrew doesn't do fruit or vegetables so he went for eggs on toast. I ordered a juice and The Acai Coco smoothie bowl which was full of all sorts of berries, passion fruit, mango, oats, granola, coconut, cacao nibs and bee pollen and served in a coconut, obviously. The only issue here was that the service was pretty slow but honestly, that didn't bother us. It was bright, comfortable and air conditioned so we didn't mind sitting there for a bit longer than we would have liked.

The total came to around about £7.50 and for me, it was the perfect healthy afternoon snack. The food was very refreshing in the bali heat and whilst I love a smoothie, eating fruit isn't usually as fun as eating chocolate but here it was; they made it fun. The food looks good and more importantly it tastes good.

Woo Bar At The W Retreat
From 4-6, Monday to Thursday, The Woo Bar at the W does two for one signature cocktails plus you get a complimentary pizza so obvs we popped along one afternoon. We spotted two big comfy chairs which was a bit of luck because the place was packed and buzzing with people so we grabbed them and settled down there for a few hours.

I ordered a pretty Peach Strawberry Mojito and Andrew had a Strawberry & Champagne Martini which both looked great when they arrived at our table. They had a little more alcohol in them than I would have liked but that didn't bother Andrew and I loved how fruity mine was; I sat there eating it with a fork when I'd finished my drink. Whilst they were quite expensive for Bali at around £7 each, living in London meant that for us, it was rather cheap. Along with our cocktails we got our complimentary cheese pizza, a duo portions of truffle fries and I ordered chocolate milkshake afterwards as well. It was poolside pizza and chips but it was good! The fries were my favourite.

Moving on to the reason that we actually went there in the first place - the sunset! We had heard that The W hotel is the place to be and by 6 o'clock, we agreed. Sunset anywhere along that beach would have been pretty but the palm trees, lanterns and the famous W around the hotel made for an extra special silhouette.

Sisterfields
Whilst I'd been following Cafe Organic for a long time, I only spotted this little gem on Instagram once we were out there, then when we were out, we spotted it very close to where we were staying so we went back for lunch the next day. Obviously, the next day there was a queue outside but we were happy to wait because everyone online seemed to be raving about it plus we were pretty sure that we were going it love it after reading through the menu. I think you'd agree #BrunchGoals.

According to their Facebook, it is supposed 'represents the iconic café culture of Australia' but for us Brits, it had a very Shoreditch vibe so we felt right at home too. There was all sorts of delicious brunch style things on the menu from banana brioche french toast to berries & bavarian cream but after eight days away, I was craving a portion of my beloved avocado toast which I ordered on gluten free bread. I love how easy it is to get gluten and dairy free in Bali, its so readily available.

My smashed avocado arrived with semi-dried cherry tomatoes, popped capers and feta and seriously, it was so good. I wish we had found out about this place a little sooner into our trip as we would both have definitely have come back and ordered the same thing all over again. With brunch, I had a mango madness smoothie, made with their house made nut milk.

Whilst I was happy, Andrew also loved this place because it has a good selection of meat dishes as well. He went for the dirty burger and thanks to instagram, I knew he was in for a bit of a treat but I just couldn't pass up the avocado opportunity although admittedly when it arrived I was a little bit jealous.
So these next two definitely deserve a mention but it was was totally dark by the time we got to both of them so you're going to have to bear with me when it comes to photos.

Breeze At The Samaya Hotel
Breeze was a very last minute decision for us, we had spotted it on Google before we left and at the time, decided not to book because the menu was very western and to be honest, I thought it was going to be a bit gimmicky, playing on being at the sea front and not actually being very good. We were on our way back from Tanah Lot Temple and didn't have any dinner plans, it was getting late just decided we'd try Breeze because after a week of eating rice (and loving it might I add), Andrew wanted some western food and we knew we could get it there.

When we arrived though, my mind changed instantly. All I'd seen of it before was the beach front but as we walked though the hotel to their pool and dining area, I fell in love with the place. It was dark by this time so sadly no sunset views but instead we had candle lit walk ways, lanterns and fairy lights winding up the trees.

We originally wanted to sit right at the sea front, like the photos I'd seen but the waves were really loud and over powering so we moved back to a little candle lit hut. As it was so dark, I didnt get any good photos of where we sat but I found this on Trip Adviser (Thanks Derekneo21) and it shows exactly where we sat.
Here are the few that I got

Bambu
Bambu was our last night and probably our favourite meal in Bali! It was pretty surreal being dropped off on the busy road to then turn into Bambu and be greeted by candle lit stepping stones across to a restaurant floating in the middle of a pool. Big thanks to TripCanvas for this one:
Whilst the setting was super romantic, the food was all delicious as well from the ceviche I had for a starter to the amazing seafood noodle both we had for a main and even the steamed coconut rice we had as a side. We couldnt find the menu for this place anywhere online so maybe they change the food quite often but I would 100% recommend giving it a visit if you're in the area!
