How to prevent sore eyes on holiday | #MeMyselfAndEye

Monday, 20 September 2021

After 21 months in the UK (have I mentioned that already) I finally went abroad last month - what a time to be alive.

Travel is one of the most important parts of my life and I forgot the joy that it brings me. I also forgot alot of other things about traveling. I forgot to barter before I jumped in a taxi, I almost forgot to buy travel insurance before I left and I forgot how it affects my eyes.

As an infrequent contact lens wearer, a holiday is usually a bit of a shock for my eyes because all of a sudden, I am putting them in for hours on end, every day. Having toughed through a few days, I soon started making a bit more effort to give my eyes a rest.

It is so important to take our eye health seriously and with National Eye Health Week this week, I have put together some tips for how to look after your eyes when you travel.

Eye drops for the plane

We all know the airflow on planes is not good for our body and with low humidity levels on board, dry eyes are a given.

Eye drops help with moisture levels and hydration plus they come in tiny aeroplane safe bottles so they're easy to travel with. Keep one in your bag and use it when needed to give your eyes a refresh.

I suffer with dry eyes quite a bit; in the air and otherwise. It's a real pain when I have a long day with my lenses, but I have started to use Thealoz Duo eye drops and find them great for giving my sore eyes some instant re-hydration.

Don't forget to drink water

If you're like me, then when you go on holiday, you choose somewhere hot. In the heat, you're much more likely to get dehydrated (alcohol consumption doesn't help) and eyes don't take well to that so it's important to drink an adequate amount of water each day.

Obviously, this is also important for your overall health, but dehydrated eyes could end up red and sore or blurring your vision. It will also cause contact lenses to dry up and become very uncomfortable; I talk from experience.

Take your make up off

Yes, it does seem that I come rolling in at 3am a little more often when I'm on holiday but that is no excuse to not wash my face before I get into bed.

I'm great at remembering to take my lenses out but anything after that seems to be forgotten until I wake up the next morning with black smudges all over my face and more often than not, clumps of mascara stuck to my lashes.

This is not smart and can be really irritating for both the eye and my lashes.

Don’t forget your glasses

This is one of my biggest holiday checks; phone, passport, glasses.

At best, you'll be straining your eyes and at worst, you'll be almost blind, like me. I literally cannot see a thing without them so my glasses are not something I can afford to forget.

Take opportunities like lazy breakfasts or the hours getting ready before going for dinner to wear your glasses and give your eyes a rest.

Keep your eyes clean

Not only were the roads much dustier where we were in Mykonos but getting around by quad bike meant that I'd often have all sorts of bits flying in my eyes. The same sort of thing can happen at the beach so it's important to take the time to rinse your face and wash your eyes when you can.
These Blephaclean daily eyelid cleanisng wipes are perfect as they're ready to use and small enough to stick in my bra if I went out without a bag.

Wear Sunglasses

Clearly sunglasses make everyone look better but that is not their sole purpose. Obviously, we should be wearing sunglasses to protect our eyes from harmful rays from the sun.

I have a funny relationship with sunglasses. I don't enjoy wearing them because it meant putting my lenses in first although I put up with it on most days.

Finally, having had enough of the problem, I came home to a new pair of prescription sunglasses.

Problem solved, forever.

I got them from Glassesshop.com which is where my everyday glasses came from and I am very pleased with them. We have had some particularly hot days back in London so at least they're getting their use!

National Eye Health Week runs from 20-27th September. Take the opportunity to do some research and make sure you are looking after your eyes as best you can.

GIVEAWAY: Sunglasses From Discounted Sunglasses

Friday, 10 April 2015

Last year, my favourite sunglasses broke. They had thick, black frames and round lenses and I was so sad when they fell apart in my hand at a BBQ. I kind of forgot all about sunglasses for a while until it started getting sunny recently. I was starting to look for a new pair a few weeks back when Discounted Sunglasses offered me a new pair, I went for something similar to the ones from last year, except this time they are Armani so hopefully they should last a bit longer.
Discounted Sunglasses have provided me with a £50 voucher for one of my readers! All you have to do is enter through the rafflecoptor below.

Good Luck!

The weather today has been amazing! Andrew, Molly and I have been sitting out in it all day in my  garden which has been a really nice way to spend the day! I woke up at Andrews this morning after spending the day there yesterday watching football and eating pizza with all the guys - we wanted to do something nice with our day today since I was so bored yesterday haha.

We decided to buy a load of food on the way back to mine and sit and eat out in my newly finished garden! We now have the table and umbrella set up on the decking so were just about finished! Andrew bought so much chicken, I got some olives and bits and pieces to eat it with and lots of mango juice which is my new love! After that, the ice cream man drove past the house as he does every day so we got ice cream tooooo, now I'm writing this thinking about what I'm going to eat for dinner since my parents are our and I want something yummy, always hungry haha

For the first time this year, I was actually hot and happy to wear shorts and a crop top without worrying about being too cold! Although I did get my hoodie out a couple of hours later haha I also got to wear one of my two brand new pairs of Birkenstocks, the way those things mold to your feet is just so comfy!

Sorry about the quality of these photos, I though my SLR had died (I was not happy) but then I realised it was just a dead battery - phew.

FASHION: Motel Rocks, ASOS, Ray Bans and Crocs Boat Shoes

Friday, 16 May 2014

Crocs? You read it right, in this outfit, I am in fact wearing a pair of Crocs, although you wouldn't recognise them for the huge rounds mules they were released in 2002. I had a silver pair with flower accessories pushed into the little holes and even at the time I didn't like wearing them haha they were a savour though out my spine op though, so so comfy, definitely not going to slip on the hospital floor and so easy to slip on when it was already taking 15 minutes to get to the toilet haha.

After my operation, I never really saw or heard of Crocs again, they were gone.. or so I thought haha. The next time I saw them was when they opened a shop at Westfield Stratford, I spend so much time there I wouldn't have missed a new shop opening! It was full of all sorts of shoes, crocs are no longer a big clumpy mule but they do cute little sandals, boots, even heels and of course, the boat shoes featured in today's post, which are just as comfy, non slips and easy to wear as the originals! These will be great for a day at the beach or a water park but this time, this time I just wore them for lunch with Andrew.

LIFESTYLE: Food Tour With Eating London

Monday, 31 March 2014

A few weeks age, I did an Eating London Food Tour, amazing, I didn't know things like food tours existed but it was a really great experience and the perfect day for it. London is beautiful in the sunshine! I even got my sunglasses out for the occasion!

The tour consists of eight yummy food stops and lots of east London history headed by Emily - our tour guide, she was amazing, so enthusiastic and knowledgeable - I learnt so much about east London that I didn't know - I can totally see how it got into the Top 20 things to do in London. I think any one who enjoyed food would love this, tourist or not!
So, our first stop was St. John Bread & Wine - We were here to try London's best voted bacon sandwich, how excited and the perfect way to start the our at about 10.45! We were taken into a very odd looking room - apparently it used to be a bank but is now its the bakery and restaurant. We started off with a quarter square of bacon sandwich each to get the tour started!

Just a little down the road we arrived at The English Restaurant. Emily told us that the wooden interior was taken from a 17th century church as the end of the road after it was waterlogged!
It was still the morning but as Emily said "We're on tour so its perfectly acceptable to have pudding fro breakfast" it was time for a bread and butter pudding. My dad loves these things but I always keep away, they just don't appeal to me but this was different, it was served up in individual pots with custard and looked delicious unlike any I've seen before, and it was, I'm converted!!
Next we went back into Spitalfields for a cheese break at Androuet - the guys in there explained to us all about the cheeses and then we ate some, Duh!
Now somewhere that I was interested to try - Poppies Fish and Chips. You couldn't have an English food tour and not stop at a fist and chip shop and we were lucky that it just so happened to be voted the best in the UK! It has that 50s diner vibe and I must admit, it was very good! The batter was crispy and the peas were a pretty green!
Taking a small break from food, we walked to brick lane to visit a pub called the Pride of Spitalfiels which also had an award - East London Pub of the Year for 2013 and its very own resident cat called Lenny. It was very odd walking into a pub and seeing a cat sat on the sofa haha. We tried an ale and a cider, neither of which I liked - the cider wasn't too bad but I'm a strawberry and lime girl at heart.
Brick lane is famous for its curry houses and although I am a little baby when it comes to spicy foods, I was really looking forward to getting the chance to try some dishes without wasting a whole portion! We all sat down at Aladin and tried Chicken Madras (too hot for me), Lamb Pathia (second spiciest and surprisingly my favourite - it was super sweet, that's probably why) and Vegetable Bhuna (not bad, not bad!) with naan obviously and a huge glass of water!
Now for my favourite stop! The Bagel Bake. This is like a family thing for me, my parents love it, my grandparents love it, and what with us being Jewish and all, well, you know haha the first time I came here was in the middle of the night with my family on the way home for a big meal, my dad stopped and bought us all bagels haha I will always remember that so I was super excited to go back, I even brought one back for the parents! ohh I could so eat another one right now!
And sadly, we were now at our last top - Pizza East - This was right above where I went for musical bingo a few weeks ago, remember? We finished the tour with a cup of tea and the most amazing chocolate, salted caramel tart. It was a tiny slice but more than enough, it was so rich but the perfect way to finish up, if it wasn't sweet I would have had to eat chocolate after haha

The tout costs £59 per adult which I guess is quite alot but you definitely leave full up and it really is a great thing to do when your in town. I would 100% recommend for any food lovers like me :)

OOTD: Army Girl

Sunday, 1 September 2013

Hi guys

I'm finally back with another outfit for you! It's a lovely sunny day here so me and Andrews had some time to take some photos in an attempt to get back up to date!

It's Saturday and although me and Andrew have just gone out for a lovely lunch in our favourite little café in the countryside, I have work tonight (boo).

They are having a charity fun day at the pub so I get to wear whatever I fancy. I was told some of the staff were dressing up so I could too if I wanted. Not wanting to turn up and be the only one in a stupid costume I've decided to wear my camo print crop top and a skirt so it just looks like a normal outfit with a bit of a nod to the army girl.

PS I won't be wearing the heels to work behind the bar but I thought the tough wooden heels went really well with the outfit and I'd definitely wear something like this out clubbing. I would much rather wear a crop top If im going out than a dress, strangely, I get hotter in a dress than a crop top and jeans and Its definelty more my style.

OOTD: Super Cute Shorts Set

Monday, 29 July 2013

Tonights post was meant to be a quick one but has ended up taking me forever to write because I got totally sidetracked! It was worth it though, because I made £17 from my new app addiction - Depop, Woo!! It's a mix of ebay and instagram. It's free - which is great and you can leave your items up for as long as you want.  If you have an account make sure to follow me at @xxgeorgina18.

Anyway, finally back to the post, as I said, just a quick one! Yesterday I packed for my holiday, a week early at that! Were going on Sunday and I'm working most days until then so it just seemed like a good idea.  These photos are of one of my new holiday outfits. It's the other matching set I was going on about a few weeks ago which my grandparents bought for me, which cost a grand total of £10 - total bargian hunters! I love that it's a shorts set and that they were an easy material rather than denim, hopefully will be confortable for walking around in the sun and eating lots.

Not sure what's going to happen to my blog while I'm away, if anyone has any ideas or thoughts on guest posts, let me know!!!

ENTRY: A Day At The Races

Friday, 21 June 2013

Here is my entry to a competition being held over at Casino Choice to style an outfit for the races!

I don't know much about Ascot and all the races stuff but I do know it's quite typical to wear somthing big and crazy in your hair -  normally like a hat or a spray but I liked the flower crown better and this competition is about wearing what you love. I've always wanted a whole lotta rosie crown from Crown and Glory so that's what I've chosen.  I'd have my hair up at the back with little curly bits around my face, that way you'll also be able to see there super classy drop earrings.

The sunglasses arn't a massive part of the outfit (but one of my favourites) and will probably spend most of the day inside my pretty little clutch, we will be in England after all, but if the sun does decide to make an appearance, at least I will be able to whip out the coolest sunglasses around! I've seen a few people wearing them and love how in photos it looks like you've added the sunglasses with a cartoon app or somthing. Soo cool! These are somthing that would be perfect for all summer, not just the races.

I was very careful with the shoes, as much as I wanted to add in a cute pair of beige Zara strappy sandals, wedges would be a lot more practical for sepending the day in a field and they're still super cute. The peep toe also gives a great opportunity to add a little bit of the blue colour to the bottom of the outfit too with Barry M on your fingers and toes.  The dress is from Jones+Jones, a favourite of mine for event dresses, they look amazing and always make me feel great, I love the puffy skirt and the pretty blue colour!

Shoes £24.95// Dress £65// Nails £2.99// Crown £18// Clutch £20// Earrings £18// Sunglasses £25

That Boy Is A Monster.

Wednesday, 17 April 2013

Hi again guys! Feels like a haven't posted for ages, does it feel like that to you? I'd like to say I've been busy but I can't actually remember what I've been doing, except for going to college. Maybe that's it, just getting back into the routine of making time for blogging even when I have other things to do!

This post is about two new additions to my wardrobe. Yey new clothes! Everytime I go to put on one of my (many) crop tops I think - hmm I wish I had a black midi to go with this. It never really occured to me until last week that maybe I should go out and buy one. I love the whole midi thing. This one was £10 from a cheap shop in Romford and it's just what I wanted. Im sure you'll be seeing alot more of this.

The crop is buy Illustrated People. A great new brand I've come across recently. I saw their consession at Topshop, checked out their site and now many of their items are on my wishlist! They do great sweaters! I dont have many long sleeve crops but I like this one, it's more loosely fitting, a nice colour and I like the design. It makes me think of Lady Gaga and thats not a bad thing.

If you read my blog I'm sure you'll recognise the both the shoes and the sunglasses. I dont think I've taken the shoes off since getting them a couple of weeks ago and the same can be said about the sunglasses since the suns been out.
