LIFESTYLE: English Dishes with Betfair
Betfair
got in touch and asked me to create a dish inspired by one of the 14 nations at the Cricket World Cup.
After finding out what the 14 nations were, of course, me being me, I decided
to make something inspired by England haha I love going out and eating all sorts of different cuisines whether that's in London or when I'm abroad but when it comes to desserts, British is
best. I love the hot, hearty crumbles and heavy puddings in the winter to the sticky sweet Tottenham
cakes when I'm passing a bakery and trifles and fruity desserts in the summer! One of my favourite British desserts has to be an Eton mess, but only when its made right! Perfect for those
last minute BBQs or a weekday dessert in the sun. yum
Eton mess, was apparently
invented when a dog squashed a meringue dessert on the way to a picnic and
all that was left to eat was a crushed meringue with strawberries and cream. It is a traditional feature of Eton
College's annual cricket game against Winchester College so it fits in perfectly with the 14 nations cricket theme!!
I like it best in its traditional form. No 'Summer Berry' Eton mess,
yuck! No alcohol or nuts or chocolate chips - just plain strawberries, meringue
and cream. Simple. When I got to M&S at the weekend they were all out of strawberries so Andrew suggested I make my Eton Mess with raspberries. I was not happy! After hunting around I found a berry fruit salad box and I had to just pick the strawberries out haha. Dessert dedication!
Oh my I am so hungry now - looks amazing!
