Barry M Coconut Infusion Nail Polish

Friday, 22 April 2016

Coconut has taken over the health and beauty scene in recent years and with its many benefits it makes sense that so many brands are jumping on board. The oil can be used for everything from making your hair super soft to removing make up, whitening your teeth and even cooking - while coconut water is packed with simple sugars, electrolytes, and minerals which help keep your body hydrated.

Barry M are always working on new and innovative formulas so it wasn't a surprise that their latest release is infused with both coconut oil and coconut water. Introducing the Coconut Infusion Range.

L-R: Flamingo, Surfboard, Tiki Hut, bikini,Starfish, Laguna, Skinny Dip, Aloha & Sunkissed
I went along to the press launch which happened to be a yummy coconut themed breakfast held on Soho rooftop on a pretty lovely, sunny day! We started with coconut smoothies, I had a chocolate and banana one, followed by a fruit salad with coconut chips, granola with coconut yoghurt and raw honeycomb (yum) and I went for the healthy option so, buckwheat and quinoa porridge - that's a 4 course breakfast guys - I was stuffed afterwards. The perfect way to start the day because in case you haven't noticed yet, I love breakfast!
Of course we were introduced to the polishes there but I couldn't wait to get them home so I could give them a try! I took home the cutest goodie bag with all of the polishes, some more of my favorite vita coco coconut oil, coconut water and this beauty - its a phone charger!
Now for the polish! First impressions? I love the packaging, from the pretty colour of the lids to the cute coconut font on the front. As for the colours, I firstly described them as dirty looking pastels, do you know what I mean? Although it was a different story when I started to use them, they were very fresh, bright pastels, not too pale and not dirty looking at all.

Barry M advise that you apply these without a base coat so that the Coconut in the formula can penetrate straight into you nails helping to hydrate and nourish them. Who has time for a base or even a top coat anyway?! I never use either.

I don't often have a gel manicure because I sometimes react to it but that means that I am always on the look out for a polish that can give me a similar look, that shine is a hard thing to replicate and to be honest, I wasn't expecting much from these in the way that they'd look because they are about the nourishment but I was seriously impressed with how shiny these polishes are. And even more impressed with how long they stayed shiny for, it lasted for the whole time the polish was on.
I started off with Laguna because blue is my fave. I think my one had a bit of a dodgy brush because the others didn't look like that but even so, the formula is so easy to maneuver that I didn't have too much of a problem, it went on so smoothly and also dried really quickly which is a big plus.
Theres not much I can tell you about how they affect my nails at the moment but hopefully with a few uses, my nails will start to see the benefits!

BEAUTY: Barry M Midnight Gelly Collection

Monday, 28 September 2015

I got another one of those confusing invites the other day. It was from the lovely lady at Barry M so as soon as I saw that come through, of course I was excited but the part that confused me was that it was happening at the London Bridge Experience. Like that the same as the London Dungeons right?!

I've done the dungeons before but going alone and at night did creep me out a bit but they are my favorite nail polish brand so there was no way I was missing this!

The new colours are part of the new Midnight Gellys Collection - four off black polishes so it did make actual sense having the launch there.  I am still finding it a bit hard to tell the difference between the four of them (it is much easier during the daytime), as you can see in the photo that I took, they do look really similar but then again, as you can see in the official Barry M photo, if you catch them in the right light, you can easily see the hints of different colours.
Above: Grape, Pistachio, Current, Cherry (I think)
It seems like all that moaning in my last post made me feel better and with a new collection of polishes to try, I couldn't wait to get home and paint my nails. I picked Grape (the blue one) and of course I topped it off with my Plumpy top coat. As usual with the Gelly collection, the polish is easy to maneuver and perfect after two coats.

Don't get me wrong, I am a light and bright nail polish lover but after a summer of wearing whites and mint greens, it was a nice change to go for a dark one.

BEAUTY: Barry M New Daylight Curing Nail Polish

Monday, 11 May 2015

As you guys know, I am a huge Barry M fan - as well as the constant new releases of colour Barry M are always coming up with new formulas to fix all the nail polish problems of the world. The last range I told you about were super speedy quick dry (new colours coming soon so keep and eye out for that) and they kept to their word, they are not my favourite range of colours (this bright sunset range is much more my thing) but I always go to them now if I am in a rush and need my nails looking fresh.

This new range claims to be daylight curing which is said to give the look and resilience of a set of salon gel nails except without the UV lamp, you wont need a base coat either but you will need the daylight curing topcoat to use the range properly - best part? It can still be removed with regular remover - no annoying soak offs. Barry M have also kept their flat brush from the last launch which is great news.

So far they have got the gel nails look down, they are shiny and they look like a gel mani. As for the resilience, they lasted a whole 5 days - very impressed. I'd say thats the longest polish has lasted on me.

I used The Way You Make Me Teal and I've Been Pinkin and found that, like the last gelly range, they are all different consistencies. The pink was thicker and abit easier to use and the green was a bit runny, plus I found that it pulled back from the tips a little bit so I had to go over it, they both look perfect once applied and dried though! Very pleased that there was perfect coverage with just two coats.

The Barry M Sunset range is available now priced at £4.99 for each polish. You can check out the colour selection here.

You Drive Me Navy, Can’t Get You Out of My Red, Do It Like a Nude, Fuchsia Generation, Peach for the Stars, The Way You Make Me Teal, I’ve Been Pinkin’.

BEAUTY: P.S Primark Nail Polishes

Monday, 23 February 2015

For me, its not worth spending loads on really expensive polishes that claim to last all week because most of the time, they never do. I usually pick my polishes on how much I like the colour over if I think it is going to last or not so when I spotted Primarks own polishes popping up in every store I had no hesitation in getting one to try out, I was drawn in by the amazing range of colours and after my first buy, I was back again for more. For £1 each it doesn't make a difference to my receipt if I throw a couple in with whatever else I'm buying.

They have a great range of colours - it seems most companies shy away from greens and blues which is a shame because they are my favorites and this is why I love this range, whether it's the same store or a different one, every time I go to Primark I see a new selection of colours and there is always a new one that I want.

The polish itself is a great consistency and really easy to work with, not thick but definitely not too thin which is something I hate! I also think the brushes are great - quite large and cover most of the nail in one swoop. Two coats covers perfectly which is great news because I get bored after that. Also they dry pretty quickly which is also great because I also get bored waiting.

The finish is streak and patch free, shiny (without a top coat) and seems to last as long as any other polish. I currently only have three and can guarantee I will be picking up another one each time I visit.

Here, I'm wearing the one on the far right, They don't have names so I'm just going to call it Mermaid Princess

BEAUTY: New SS15 Additions To The Barry M Gelly Collection

Monday, 9 February 2015

Barry M's Gelly range is one of my favourite ever ranges of polish. I never usually use a top coat so I was so impressed with the hi shine glossy finish you get from the polish alone. These days I much prefer a Gelly Mani over a Gel one - I'm able to change the colours whenever I like and it's alot cheaper.

These new additions to the range include three colours and a top coat. One of the girls at the press day described them as colours within colours which is a great way to think of it. Fondant is quite similar to Prickly Pear and Sky Blue is also quite similar to Huckleberry although they are both different. Blue is my favourite nail colour and I struggle to find them with other brands. Barry M is usually my first port of call and they have done amazingly well with this new one, I love that it's pastel but not too wishy washy. I wear white nails through most of the summer so I'll be saving 'Cotton' for then.

Apparently the topcoat is there to enhance the shine you already get from the gelly polishes as well as add a bit of thickness to the mani to make that gel look even more authentic. After using the top coat on the speedy dry polishes, I wasn't convinced, of course it was a nice shiny top coat but it wasn't anything special. That is, until I used it on top of a gelly polish. I am amazed at how a nail polish can look so similar to a gel mani. It's super shiny and has that strange thickness that you get with gels. The description was right and I am very impressed. Definitely worth a try.

These also launch into Superdrug on February 11th and Boots on the 18th. Not long now!!

BEAUTY: NEW Barry M Speedy Dry Polishes

Friday, 30 January 2015

Yesterday I popped into the Barry M press day to have a look at their new launches for SS15. I say popped in, but I actually spent about two hours there because it was such a nice place to be. They had rented a private room at the All Star Bowling Lanes in Holborn which had two bowling lanes, it's own bar and lots of sofas! There were a few bloggers who had come from a long way so we all spent the afternoon drinking pretty mocktails, chatting, taking photos and doing all those bloggery things as well as having a go on the bowling haha. I seemed to have a lucky throw and hit a strike my first time, we'll just pretend that I knew what I was doing and did that on purpose haha.
Barry M are launching a new line of speedy dry polishes in nine pretty pastel shades (along with some other products, another post on those). The lids are checkered like a racing flag because they dry so quickly. I like when you can tell what that they are all in the same range from their lids, it's like they are all one family.

I didn't get my nails done at the event as I wanted to get home and do them myself to really see what they were like. I have just used Pole Position, which is a mint green, and I can defiantly see a difference in drying time. I put the first layer on my little finger, then I decided that I needed to tell the world what I was doing so I sent a tweet and by the time I can back to my nail it was totally dry. I found that the second and third layers also dried quickly, just not a fast as the first.

Another feature of these polishes is the new brush. They are rounded rather than square which makes it easier to get a nice, clean line along your cuticle. Barry M brushes are usually a great size and I was able to paint most of my nails in just one swoop which was helpful!

This range launches into Superdrug on February 11th and Boots on the 18th.

BEAUTY: The Ciate Advent Calendar 2014

Friday, 16 January 2015

As someone who really doesn't wear that much make up, I am not really that interested in beauty calendars over Christmas although I am a bit of a nail polish addict and this particular beauty calendar has caught my eye over the past few years now!

Over Christmas, I am happy with a normal chocolate calendar - tradition and all plus this one is very expensive at £50. So, I stick with the chocolate over Christmas and in January, this is a perfect treat to yourself because the price always go down by loads! This one came from ASOS* and was almost half price at £27.

The packaging this year is so cute, beautifully packaged to look like a big dolls house with a polish behind each door! At first, I didn't think it seemed big enough but it's quite thick and the polishes are only minis! You get 15 coloured mini polishes, one full sized one and eight effect polishes. Below I have put a photo of the first two I opened so you can have a look at the size of them but I didn't want to ruin the surprise for the rest.

Have You Had A Ciate Calendar Before?

BEAUTY: Barry M A/W Silk Range

Wednesday, 5 November 2014

These polishes were something completely new for me, I've never tried anything from Barry M's silk collection and there was something that I wasnt expecting - They're Matte. How cool?! That go on all sparkly and dry (very quickly might I add) to a subtle matte shimmer which as they are meant to do, gives it that silk effect - I decided I liked it like that and didn't add a top coat! Same bottle, consistency and brush shape as all the Barry M polishes make these very easy to apply!

I loved each one but my favourites had to be between the green and the purple - considering I'm not really a red nails person I really liked this one as it was a little bit deeper - I currently have it on for Halloween! These are definitely a great range of colours for this time of year, with Halloween, fireworks night and Christmas all on there way!

BEAUTY: Barry M New Glitterati AW14 Range

Tuesday, 14 October 2014

I got a super excited package from Barry M earlier this month and I couldn't want to show you guys! Sadly, I had to wait because my camera wasn't working but that doesn't matter now because I have my photos and I'm ready to blog plus it gave me some time to try a few of them out!

Below is Barry M's new range of Glitterai polishes
(Fashion Icon, Socialite, Starlet
(L-R)Rockstar, Catwalk Queen, VIP

As usual, Barry M glitters are the easiest to work with and two coats are all you need - plus they dry super fast which is always a bonus.

The colours themselves are quite jelly looking bases choc full of holographic glitter which means no sparkle-less gaps (a pet hate of mine, if your going to do glitter nails, you have to do it properly!!) and as a thick glitter lover, another point that I have to make is that the finish was lovely and smooth.

I think they are going to be perfect for this time of year ready for Halloween and Christmas as to me, they look quite magical!
I'll post photos of the other shades when I wear them, so watch out!

BEAUTY: W7 Liberty

Sunday, 29 June 2014

Just fancied showing you guys last weeks nails, I was pretty proud of how my painting skills are coming along although they don't look like this any more, my mum just did my gels ready for Thailand, They're white and sparkly but I'm sure I will also update you on later!

As you know, I'm already a big fan on W7 and this purple - it's called Liberty - is something a little different for me, I have had lilac before but haven't ever really tried a deeper purple like this one but I do think it is a little bit more of a wintery colour so it will be getting alot more use later in the year!

BEAUTY: Todays Nails With W7

Thursday, 5 June 2014

Since I've stopped wearing my gels it means that I am painting my nails at least twice a week and although it's a bit of a pain the plus side is that I get to change up my colours alot more often than when I wear 3 week gels. I think I'm getting quite good at it too, my cuticles seem to be quite neat - my mum was even impressed last time!

I was getting sick of all my polishes chipping every two days so today I went with one I haven't tried yet to see if it was any better. I got this green one and a white one together a while back, I used the white on my toes - I know toe polish normally lasts longer anyway but it's already been there for 3 weeks and not chipped at all so I thought it was definitely worth a try on my hands.

I am loving the colour since its a little pastely but still super bright and it matches my blog haha. I know alot of people wont go for green nails but I like them! The W7 polish is one of the easiest I have come across to apply, it has a very big brush which glides along the nails smoothly and two coats works fine, I haven't even put a top coat on!

BEAUTY: Nail Polish From ZOYA

Monday, 2 June 2014

Today I have a new brand of polish to introduce you to - ZOYA. They have released 12 new colours for the summer and I picked a few to show you guys here! I though I'd better opt for a mixture of the glitters and plain polishes so the four I picked are called: Alma, which is a super summery glitter orange, Staasi, which is the other glitter is a lovely forest green. Ling is the first of the two plain polishes and is a deep electric blue and the last one is called Kintridge which I'm wearing on my nails currently!

I think Kintridge is my favourite of the four and actually my favourite pink from my whole collection at the moment! It's so barbie and so something that I wouldn't normally go for but I just loved it! I'm wearing half and half with a special edition glitter from Barry m which my parents got for me! I have had so many compliments on it already.

One thing I have to say about the polishes (well, just the pink one as its the only one I've had time to use properly at the moment) is that it was quite hard to apply - Luckily for me, i know how to paint my nails and control a brush properly (thanks mum haha) I also have alot of patience. The polish was very, very runny and dripping everywhere. It also needs a lot of coats to get a deep colour, I'd say in the photo, my pink nails have 3-5 coats each. This doesn't bother me too much and I love the colours so I will continue to use them all!

BEAUTY: More Playboy Make Up - Lipstick and Polish

Thursday, 17 April 2014

After the launch party last week, Playboy Make Up got in touch to ask if I'd like to try some of the polishes as well, of course I agreed as I was pretty upset that I didn't get a better look at them at the event! I was sent there two pretty reds. I'm not normally a fan of red, unless it's glitter, then I'm crazy for them. I think my dislike of the colour comes from growing up and watching all of my mums older customers go for red (she's a nail technician), it's just stuck with me that red is an old lady colour.

Saying that, this one is a great tone, it's a very bright, young, red! As for the other one - if there's glitter in it, I'm going to like it regardless.

The red polish is quite thin which is very odd because one coat seems to cover it enough. The glitter is a red glitter in a red polish so one coat will cover the nail although it if you the glitter thicker like I do then it's fine to keep layering up until you are happy.

I am actually really impressed with these two and will be looking forward to trying some of the other colours!
They also sent me a few of the lipsticks which was very kind! All very pretty colours, again, bright and young and a great coverage. I also love the packaging.
